A San Diego treasure, the Maritime Museum of San Diego is more than a collection of world class exhibits, and ships. It is a family of volunteers, members, and supporters who are joined together by their passion of the sea, maritime history, and creating an inspiring and enlightening experience for children and adults alike. Here is how you can become part of the adventure.
Year-End Appeal
As a lifelong sailor and an explorer probing the far limits of human knowledge about the structure of life, including life in the oceans and the most basic components of human life, I think I can say that I understand what it means to set out on a long voyage into the unknown. Exploration into uncharted waters and confrontations with that unknown are the daily business of the J. Craig Venter Institute, just as it once was the business of explorers during the great age of sail. The tools may have changed, but the ability of those tools to inspire and excite wonder across the ages is timeless. The desire to explore beyond known horizons and the willingness to prevail over all the difficulties that one encounters in doing so are a legacy of centuries past and today remain one of the most precious assets of humanity. Perhaps no one is better positioned to say this, but in some way, the urge to explore may be in our genes!

words that sum up our individual hopes and our
communal intentions.
