Product Description
This Winter/Spring 2007 issue of Mains'l Haul (Vol. 43: 1&2) gathers a select group of internationally known authors, historians and naval experts, constructing an overview of the history of the development of the aircraft carrier. While local San Diego history is highlighted by author (and retired Naval Captain) Bruce Linder, the global development of the aircraft carrier is viewed from several perspectives: by French scholar Alexandre Sheldon-Duplaix, British strategic analyst and professor Dr. Eric Grove, and author Jonathan Parshall. Scott McGaugh takes the reader on a visual and historic tour of our neighboring museum, the USS Midway, while Karl Zingheim creates an overview of a century of carrier development.
Also featured in this issue are several prized World War II photos from the Maritime Museum of San Diego's Steichen Collection, gifted to the museum in 1980.
Aircraft Carriers – Historical Perspectives is an invaluable addition to our maritime history.
