- Enlightened Voyages – Epic Journeys that Changed the Pacific
Product Description
Summer/Fall 2010 issue of Mains'l Haul
Enlightened Voyages – Epic Journeys that Changed the Pacific, shares its title with the newest exhibit aboard HMS Surprise. The Maritime Museum "movie star" ship has been transformed into HMS Dolphin, a 24-gun frigate closely resembling Surprise. This issue of Mains'l Haul displays many of the colorful exhibit panels tracing Dolphin's historic voyage that changed the fate of empire-building in the Pacific, which makes for compelling reading after touring the ship.

This issue also features excerpts from the traveling exhibit Mapping the Pacific Coast – Coronado to Lewis and Clark from the Quivira Collection. The Collections owner, Henry Wendt, has authored a beautifully illustrated book of the same name from which this issue is derived. Spanning 260 years of discovery and exploration in the Age of Enlightenment (1544-1802), both the book and the catalogue-style Mains'l Haul offer an invaluable compendium of the Collections books, maps and illustrations, as well as their historical relevance.
